What is an STM?

Police Report Certificate (STM) is in Indonesia a Surat Tanda Melapor (STM).

What does the law require?

As stated in the Indonesian Police Chief Instruction No. Pol / 02 / XII / 95 regarding Licensing and Notification (JUKLAP Kapolri No. Pol / 02 / XII / 95 tentang perijinan dan pemberitahuan), Indonesian Law No. 09 Year 1992 regarding Immigration (UU Nomor 9 Tahun 1992 Tentang Keimigrasian) and Indonesian Government Regulation No. 31 Year 1994 regarding Alien Control Measures and Immigration (PP Nomor 31 tahun 1994 Tentang Pengawasan Orang Asing dan Tindakan Keimigrasian) every Indonesian citizen or organization who hosts an expatriate is to report the visit to Local Police Station (Polres) and obtain a Police Report Certificate – Surat Tanda Melapor (STM).

How to obtain the STM?

The following documents are required to obtain the STM:

  • Copy of Passport of the Expatriate
  • Copy of KITAS of the Expatriate
  • Application Letter
  • Letter of Sponsor
  • Copy of ID Card (KTP) of Indonesian host
  • Copy of Family Register (Kartu Keluarga) of Indonesian host

The process to obtain the STM takes around 1-2 working days.
